Substitute Teacher Training

This series of classes is highly recommended for those individuals interested in substitute teaching in the area school systems. It is currently required prior to becoming employed in the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems. Please check with the school system in which you want to work to determine their requirements. The class is approved for three (3) Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

During these sessions you will explore the legal and ethical considerations involving substitute teaching, policy and procedures (from Harry Wong's First Day of School,) age appropriate instruction strategies, behavioral management techniques, and much more.

Each session includes four classes on consecutive Saturdays from 9am - 4:15pm on UNCA's campus. Students must attend all four classes in a session to receive the substitute teacher training certification and CEUs.

The cost for each session is $95.00. The required textbook is Substitute Teacher Handbook, K-12, Seventh Edition, available in the UNCA bookstore for $26.88.
