Great Smokies Writing Program Class Schedule

Writers at Home - Sunday, May 20

The Writers at Home spring series concludes with readings by contributors to recent issues of "The Great Smokies Review," the online literary magazine published by UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program. This event is free and open to the public and begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., Asheville.

The Great Smokies Writing Program is pleased to announce the following courses for Summer 2012:

  • Getting Back in Touch with the Muse: A Poetry Workshop  Instructor: Jeff Davis.  Classes meet Tuesday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm, for 5 weeks: June 5, 12, 19 and July 3, 10.  Montford Books & More, 31 Montford Avenue, Asheville.

  • Deja Vu All Over Again: Writing the Personal Essay  Instructor: Marjorie Klein.  Classes meet Wednesday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm, for 5 weeks: June 6, 13, 20, 27 and July 11.  Grateful Steps, Inc., 159 S. Lexington Avenue, Asheville.

  • Remembering, Misremembering, Disremembering: Our Memories Have a Story to Tell  Instructor: Christine Hale. Classes meet Monday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm, for 5 weeks: June 4, 11, July 2, 9, 16.  Grateful Steps, Inc., 159 S. Lexington Avenue, Asheville.

  • A Feast of Memories Instructor: Jennifer McGaha.  Classes meet Tuesday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm, for 5 weeks: June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 11.  Blue Ridge Books, 152 S. Main Street, Waynesville.

  • Writing to Grab the Reader: A Fiction Workshop for Beginning and Intermediate Writers  Instructor: Dale Neal.  Classes meet Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm, for 5 weeks: June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5.  Montford Books & More, 31 Montford Avenue, Asheville.

Application Instructions:

If you are new, or if you were not enrolled during the Spring 2012 session (in the Great Smokies Writing program), please use this application and registration form.
If this is your first class in the program, you will need to include the one-time $20 application fee.

If you are continuing to take classes with the Great Smokies Writing Program  (enrolled Spring 2012), please fill out this current student registration form. (PDF 48KB)

Summer 2012 Tuition Rates:

In-state tuition: $117.92 (must have lived in NC full time for the last 12 months or more)

Out-of-state tuition: $578.96

Students new to the Great Smokies program must also submit the $20 application fee.  This may be combined into one check with your tuition.
